Absolutely loved it. *Remains of the Day* - also by Ishiguro - is also fantastic.

I read or heard someplace that Ishiguro was exploring, with Never Let Me Go, what it would be like to have to compress an entire lifetime into a shortened period - 35 years, say. And in some ways, the book is just about life anyway - Kathy and Tommy and Ruth all face death no matter what - nothing gets them out of it. Which, as you say, is part of thinking about what it means to be human.
I just loved this book - it's so carefully put together.
Looking for more dystopia? May I suggest Patrick Ness's *Chaos Walking* Trilogy? First book titled THE KNIFE OF NEVER LETTING GO.
your mind will be blown. at least, it will be if other people's reactions are any indicator.

PS. is your library discarding children's books? If you're ever in a position to acquire any of those Childhood of Famous Americans pseudo-biographies, I'm trying to have a collection. and those are exactly the kind of books that will just get pulped or pitched.kittens not kidshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01687718497473389899noreply@blogger.com
